It's really crazy that I've been here almost two months, and yet (as always) it seems so long ago that I was home. My summer working on the Outer Banks seems like another lifetime ago, my going away party a dream, and the familiarity of Arlington a distant memory. Was it really six months ago that I graduated from UVA? Time has a weird way of going by so fast, but at the same time so slow. Today I am entering a new phase of my trip. I'm moving, for, as many of you know, I tend to get a little stir-crazy if I stay in one place too long. I have just packed up everything I know into my lovely red backpack, cleaned my room, and am getting ready to move into a boy house. Yes, I am moving into a house that has features a stack of beer cans above the fireplace, a naked girl calender by the tv, and three overstuffed couches crammed into the living room. Situated right by the train tracks, every 20 minutes or so conversations are cut short by a rumbling. And yet, I love this little blue house...I loved it at first sight. A mix between a frat, my brother's apartment, all my guy friends' apartments, and those slightly rundown but comfy houses that I always secretly envied all through college, it feels like home...at least for two months. And of course, the added bonus is that it is a two mintue walk from work. I am now working at a cute cafe restaurant coffee bar called Rue de Paris. It's situated on the swanky Park Rd and I get to see lots of ferraris and trendy motorcycles dropping off chic coffee drinkers who order things like a skinny cappacino in a mug or a soy decaf flat white very hot. But it's fun and the people I work with are great, a real family. Though I work constantly, telling myself that the more I work now the more fun I'll have later, I finally actually have a social life again. My love of dancing is becoming quite well-known.... So though I haven't had any majorly crazy adventures yet, I feel that I'm finally learning to live as an American in Australia. I'm surviving, having a good time, and soaking everything in. Sometimes just living a normal life in a new place is an adventure in itself...

How ya goin' mate?
Have you heard that greeting yet? (Maybe it's just a WA thing) Hellloooooooooooooo! I'm sorry I missed well...everything but I don't have any internet at my apartment and you know how bad I am at email anyway. How long are you at your frat house (That is sooo cool by the way!)? If you are there long enough to have a mailing address there's a card I want to send you. It sounds like you're living the dream, so all those hours at the Lifesaving Station must have paid off! I don't want to make this too long in case you're paying for internet. While you were in Sydney did you bungee-jump off the bridge? Totally touristy, I know, but I heard it's amazing. I think they do a special version for New Year's too, if you don't have plans. That's awesome that you got to do the Melbourne Cup, they had it all over TV when I was over there, but I was on the wrong coast :). Have a pint for me and Happy Thanksgiving!

Normal in a new place
Hey DivaBoots,
Once again loved your latest piece...I particularly liked your last line. A wonderful statement to travel by...actually a wonderful statement to live by. It will become even truer when you head up to Southeast Asia. Happy Thanksgiving. We will be thinking about you and eating a turkey leg just for you...
Love
Dad
PS we decided to change our Saturday-morning-after- Thanksgiving tradition. Couldn't do it without you!

The television is fixed
Thought you would get a kick out of the fact that the tv at the beach is fixed as of November 21! Your friend John finally brought the piece, put it in the tv and it promptly exploded. Are you surprised? Anyway, another part and a few weeks later and there it was, fixed! And my special memory is his comment before it was fixed that it sure looked like it was a nice TV when it works. So there, another chapter closed in your life. Love the entries. Keep them coming. Diane
