Chiloe sucks in April
Entry 31 of 58 | show all | print this entry |
Well I slept really well on the bus last night, and I got my toe nails painted. Hows that for the good stuff?
I jumped a bus from Puerto Montt to Castro this morning. It rained, then it cleared, then it rained, then in cleared. I took a quick boat ride around the bay to see the stilted houses - very pretty, cute.
Thats all there was to do in Castro, so I jumped back on the bus and headed back to Ancud - was gpoing to do a tour of Penguin Island tomorrow to see... penguins. Alas, they have left for Antartica - Bastards!!! So I shall wake later, have breakfast (Im at the nicest guesthouse, little old man runs it. I have a private room with big bed, breakfast included for 4000pesos. Not bad. No heat though, so well see if the blankets are good enough.
Then in the early afternoon I shall return to Puerto Montt and spend Sunday doing the lake district. Hopefully weather holds out.
NOTE: Lonley Planet Chile SUCKS"! It does nothign to refer to seasons or migrations or the like. To be honest, Im looking forward to getting back to Argentina and will make an effort to get to Bariloche and maybe see Carlos again. I should have a good amount of time, as I dont expect to be able to do much in Patagonia (weather). I am not the least bit interested in ice-snow camping down there.
So, Im a bit bummed, but its all a learning lesson. I am still looking forward to the ferry, and I do get an extra day int he lake district.
Ironic that I skipped out on Magaly and Gino to get here to have more time, only to find out I dont want more time. But hey, a dance behind a kerchief is still just a dance behind a kerchief. everythign happens for a reason...
Sigh... things like that piss me off. Actually thats been the hardest thing for me... make tradeoffs, and then not really knowing if you made the right one. Were all doing it down here, but most are able to leave the what ifs behind... that is truly difficult for me.
As for tonight, Im going to head back to the guesthouse, have a hot shower and crash by 8pm!
NOTE: Im sure Chiloe is a lovely island to tour with a palet for seafood, with a car, and with nicer weather.
