I scheduled my Contiki tours over a year in advance, so at the time, it felt like such a long way away that I didn't need to get nervous about it. But, as it got closer, I started to worry that I had made a huge mistake, especially since I scheduled them back to back. What if I hated the first one and then had to do it all over again right afterward?!?! It was too late to back out, though, so I just had to keep an open mind and go for it.

My first flight was at 1:15 PM to Dallas. We got to airport ridiculously early, though, so I could change my money and make sure I knew where I was supposed to go. This was my first time flying alone, so I thought it would be scary, but it was totally fine.

I took a picture out the window of the plane at some point between Cleveland and Dallas, back when I thought flying was fun. I also got excited because once we landed and I was waiting to get off the plane, I saw my suitcase go down the conveyor belt, so I had to get a picture of that, too. Dallas/Fort Worth was actually my favorite airport of the trip because they had sooo much good food. And by good I mean it was like a mall food court. Mmm. Anyway, I had an Auntie Anne's pretzel and an Einstein Bros. bagel, and then I was off to LA!

By the time I got to LA, I was already exhausted. My flight was supposed to leave at 11:45pm, but it ended up being delayed. Eventually we did leave, though, and it was a 13 & 1/2 hour flight to get to Brisbane. I was seated in the second row of economy, so I thought "Yay, I'll get to get off the plane nice and quick once we land!" Then I saw that in front of the first row, they had little beds they could pull down from the wall for babies. Yep, I was seated right behind a row of screaming, crying babies. Awesome. My plan was to sleep for as much of the flight as I could, but I got maybe two hours of sleep total. I played a lot of Solitaire on the seat in front of me. Not my happiest moment.

By the time I got to Brisbane, I was absolutely drained from my long, sleepless flight... only to find out that the big flight being delayed meant that I wasn't going to make it to my connecting flight in time. So they scheduled me for a later flight and even gave me $30 worth of food vouchers to use in the airport! Everyone in the Brisbane airport was so nice that it almost made me forget how exhausted I was. I got a footlong sub from Subway and a giant smoothie and still couldn't use up all $30 worth of vouchers. I had to get a picture of Hungry Jack's while I was here, too. In Australia, they call Burger King Hungry Jack's, but they still use the same logo and have a similar menu and everything. Their burgers actually look a little more like burgers than the smashed little things we get in the states, though.
