Sibiloi National Park Campsite

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

We arrived at Sibiloi National Park gate in mid-morning and paid our dues: $40 per person Park Fee, 300 Shillings per car and $15 per person camp fee.

We bought a map of the Park and drove a few more hours to reach the camp site at Lake Turkana's edge. We couldn't believe this was a National Park, there was absolutely nothing but dry bush and dirt, oh and the occasional skinny rabbit. In a bleak and barren sense, it was really beautiful.

Arriving around mid-day, it was just insanely hot. At an elevation of 365 m above sea level, we quickly ate lunch (I can't even remember what it was anymore it was so hot) and after ensuring this part of the lake was bilharzia-free (it was), we raced into the water. Expecting a hot bath, the water's temperature was actually pretty cool. Very nice.
a whole lot of nothing, but so beautiful

The rest of the afternoon was spent lounging around in the shade of the building, reading, showering and for me, napping.
