Mbabane, 16-04-2005
In the morning we saw how beautiful our Backpackers is located. Mbabane isthe capital of Swaziland (only 80.000 habitants) and is situated in the mountains, which we can see. We were a little bit amazed. Our Webmasters cats are here in the yard.... at least...... that looks like it! There is not much to do in Mbabane, thats why we were going for a day-drive through the Ezulwini valley We stopped at a big handycraft market where Suzi bought a beautiful painting. We found that the souvenirs here are much more original and more creative than in Z-A. The next stop is the tourist information office. Here too are handycraft shops but it is different. Here they sell sculptures, drawings, glass, leather, silver etc. Legend Backpackers are also here, as well as Swazi Trails. We asked information about Whitewater rafting, but it was a bit pricey. We drove along a fruitmarket and stopped. We wanted to get out the car, but were surrounded by female fruit vendors, who showed their fruit through our windows. They looked fabulous. The candle factory is the next stop. We were here allready last year, but that did not matter. They are beautiful and it is nice to see how they make them. At lunch hour we stopped at the Malandelas and The House of Fire. It is beautiful here. There is so much creativity in the interior, we could not believe our eyes. It helps that I have not had eaten blue cheese in a year, but however.... On our way back we drove, by accident, into to Royal Palace. When we saw the guards with their guns, we right away returned. After all the shopping we made a stop at the guys. We looked at a gamble-art parcours.
Tip 1 Mantengs craft centre, where also are located Legens BP'ers and Swazi trail. One of a kind different souvenirs.
Tip 2 Swazi candles in Malkerns is a must to see.
Tip 3 House of Fire is a magic kind of theatre, whorte while to see, even when nothing is going on.
Tip 4 Malandela's restaurant ( naast House of fire) Good food for a reasonable price.
