The Netherlands - somewhere in Poland 30-4-2004 / 1-5-2004
The big day!!! Our train does not leave until 16.00 hrs. We have a whole day to fill. How do we feel...? We are amazingly relaxed with enormously long toes. Fortunately we are able to fill our time with stuff to do. At around 15.00 hrs we decide to leave. We take a picture of shutting the front door and give my brother one last hug and we're off with the bus to Central Station Amersfoort. When we arrive at the station we immediately start with our first assignment: mailing a postcard. The four hours to Hannover are a piece of cake. In Hannover we have 2.5 hours to spare. Now it starts feeling like we are really gone. At 22.11 hrs our train leaves for Moscow. We discover very soon that the train personnel only speak Russian. Our reserved seats are already taken so we are assigned different seats. Here we meet a fellow traveller with whom we share the compartment. He turns out to be a nice, 57 year old non smelling, quiet and non snoring Danish guy. No complaints here! At 03.00 hrs the border patrol wakes us up for a passport check. In all my sleepy speed I give Jeroen my passport but fortunately the German controller understood our mistake immediately since I have a boy name. He at once asked what girl name Jeroen had...GABY?!?! A half hour later everything was done again by the Polish patrol but they did not have a sense of humor. Later that night two guys with flashlights opened our compartment door but left quickly again.
