Finally an update!

It has been hard to find a reliable and fast internet connection close to where I have been staying. When I am connected I am often doing research for my trip, which is why blog updates have been few and far between.

My travel plans have changed quite a bit, and I am now staying in Jogja (officially "Yogyakarta") longer than originally planned. I'm really enjoying the language school I am going to. The teachers are so down to earth, friendly and curious, that it makes for a really enjoyable and stimulating time. I was doing 6 hours of tuition per day for a while, and would get back to my hotel exhausted. I have homework to do most days, and this would usually get done in the morning just before heading to the school (just like when I was in high school!!)

I really like Jogja. It is hard to pinpoint what I like about the place, but it seems like a city that can (and is) lived in by regular families, who are not pushed out to the fringes where, in Australia, land would be cheap and services non-existent. I'll write more on Jogja later.

I've met some really nice people while I have been here, and been to some extraordinary places. I've been challenged personally, and am trying to absorb it all.

I'll be in jogja for nearly two more weeks, then it's on to North Sumatra and the jungle!

Love to all.

Good to hear from you
Good to hear from you and that you are having a good time. You don't say if you are getting much opportunity to use any language that you are learning? What other nationalities are at the language school or is it one on one tuition? I see Therese has asked if you have come across any Irish people - what about an Irish pub? There is usually one around somewhere!! Stay safe and continue posting your blogs. Love hearing from you, bye for now, Ger x

Yogya
It is great that you could enjoy ur trip oin JOgja.
I also feel the same thing while spending my holiday in JOgja. Before, I always spend my holiday in JOGja.
It is really a nice city, solemn, nice food, nice people, nice weather and nice places.

You must try 'GUDEG' which is traditional food in JOgja but don't try it along Malioboro street. You will have problem with your stomach. You could find it on another street. ( Just turn left from the museum on the traffic light then go straight).

Have you tried to walk on the 'Beringin Tree' in front of JOgja Palace. There is a myth if you could pass both of trees , your dream will come true.

waiting for your photos

cheers
