It will never happen again; my first breath of Jakarta air.  There is only ever one "first" breath, and I've had mine now.

I like to do this when I first go to a country: take a deep breath and reflect on the smell.  Think about what, if anything, can be understood about the city from that first breath.

What can I say about Jakarta from that first breath?  Too many people!  Too many "motor" and "mobil"!  Buses that belch enough noxious fumes to make smoking 80 Gauloise a day mild in comparison.

But there were sweet undertones!
