Before we continue with the narrative, I was looking at the map of my travels across the US, and noticed that the path very much resembles a big question mark.  Just coincidence?

This day was a pain.  I knew I had to get my tourist card and motorcycle insurance and temporary importation pass at the border.  Got the insurance okay, then when approaching the border I knew I had to pull over to the right somewhere.  Then I saw it - just as I was sailing by at 30 mph.  Nobody stops you at all when entering Mexico.  I was expecting at least a toll booth setup where I could ask questions - nada.  But I knew these doc were not needed unless you went south of Ensenada, so I figured I,d pick them up along the way.

In Ensenada, an hour south,  I asked at a tourist booth, and the woman told me I had to go back.  I wasnīt sure if she knew what she was talking about, but decided to play it safe.  I turned around, went over the border to the US (30 minute wait - 2 hours for cars waiting in line) and did the Mexico border again.  What a pain!  But I got it done.

About 30 miles south of Ensenada, truly in the middle of nowhere, is a turnoff to a town called Erendria.  After 20 km the road turns into dirt and goes through the tiny town.  Past the town. on a cliff overlņooking the Pacific, is a hostel run by a couple of expat surfers called Coyote Calīs.  The place has a full bar, TV, pool and foosball table, etc.  and a communal kitchen.  The guys who runitt are cool, but I think what started out as an adventure has become a bit constricting to them, though they may not see or admit it.

Mexico is at dead low tide right now in terms of tourists.  There were 2 other guests.  One guy, Gary, said he was from Connecticut.  He planned to staytherer for a month.  Why, I have no idea.  The place was nice enough but completely isolated.  One of the guys who run it could teach you to surf, or you could ride an ATV around, but that was about it.  It was a little creepy.  If someone decided they didnīt like you, itīs unlikely theyīd ever find your body.

But it was quiet, I had some goodfishg tacos at a stand on the main dirt drag, and slept pretty well.
