I just wrote this entry and lost it, so this version will be more prosaic:
- San Diego is a very pretty and livable town. Not hip, creative or liberal, maybe even boring - but beautiful and comforting, and very American - an apt place from which to drop off the map.
A couple of observations about the US:
- Gambling - there are casinos in practically every state, and in some states they're in most towns. The gaming industry is incredibly profitable, and must be incredibly powerful.
- Politics - geographically, 90% of the country is conservative - including 90% of New York, California and Illinois. Population-wise, it's close. Are there any blue states? I think they're more like blue islands. When you travel across the country, this is striking.
- Ron Paul - I saw Ron Paul for President signs all along my rides, including in liberal locales. One in Venice Beach. What does this mean? Talk amongst yourselves.
Tomorrow morning it's off to the border. Sorry for no pics, though I do have em. I may correspond less frequently going forward - we'll see. Cheers!
