On this day Norm and I set off to explore the park. I talked him into taking a hike off theroad withme along a trail that Ranger Rayrecommended, which endedup being a trail to nowhere, but he was a great sport about it and we had a really good time anyway, even though we had to ford a couple of streams to get back. Then in the afternoon we toured some of the other sites. Norm then cooked dinner, and afterwards we dipped into a pint of Yellowstone Bourbon we had picked up.

Norm Vasquez is an interesting guy. He's 37, and has worked on classic cars, traveled to Alaska to work in the fisheries, and trained formally and worked as a chef, and was now looking for the next thing. So naturally, a trip was called for. He had also been to Bolivia and Peru recently, and shared good info.

Eventually I stumbled back to my tent to crank my ipod, and fall asleep - in about 4 seconds. (By the way, I'm currently totally stuck on Matthew Sweet's album, 100% Fun. Awesome power pop.)
