I outran some thunderstorms today. The funny thing about riding is that the answer to almost any problem you face is - to faster! (but not too fast of course, Mom). Too much traffic, get out of it - go faster! No traffic - great riding conditions - go faster! Same applies to weather.
When you ride, the weather is much more present. Like a character in a play that's more fully developed. It gets warmer and colder through valleys, over rivers, the wind picks up and slackens. It threatens, then eases, it fakes left, goes right. So we jousted throughout the day, but it had mercy on me in the end.
At the council Bluffs Motel 6, 2 biker guys told me that the annual Sturgis, SD biker rally was going on right now, si I'm going to take a trip up to check it out - Jap bike and all. I figure if the Harley bikers give me any sh*t I'll just explain the benefits (overall) of a global economy, and the relative merits of my Suzuki compared to their air-cooled, pushrod pieces of vintage 50's engineering, and that should clear everything up. Or if worse comes to worst, I can sure as hell outrun 'em.
Harley bikers are like kids in a playground gang - really cool 1 on 1, but they don't know you when they're in a group. More on bikers to come.
