A Day of Architectural Excellence

Had a leisurely drive from Zanesville to Columbus Indiana. Columbus is a small town of 45,000 and it is the headquarters of Cummins Inc. In the 50's the company started a foundation to pay the architectural fees for new buildings. The town has a number of architecturally signifiant buildings designed by noted architects from the latter half of the 20th century. A lot of these buildings are concentrated in the downtown area. We were able to see a large number of them walking around for several hours. We both thought the detour was worthwhile. From Columbus we drove an hour west to Bloomington, IN, home of Indiana University. Had some heavy rain east of town and later after we ate at the Red Lobster. Changed our plan and decided not to drive around the campus. Tomorrow we have a long day - it is 620 miles to Abilene, KS.
