. the park is very capable of absorbing huge numbers of visitors. yosemite village was busy but we didn't have to queue for anything. we were back at our hotel by 5.30pm and had planned to have a swim before dinner, but headed straight out instead to a local seafood restaurant. i'm now writing this blog as samson takes a swim in the pool. a really lovely day.

approx 2 hours to yosemite village centre from oakhurst
glacier point drive approx 1.5 hours there and back off southern gate road
after an early breakfast we headed off into yosemite. the south gate is only 16 miles away, but the valley centre another 35 miles on again. no queues at the park gate, just paid our 20 dollars and in we drove. what a fab day. scenery is ...... speechless... totally amazing - sorry, those words don't do it justice. we stopped for the famous tunnel view and several other places including a walk up to the bridalveil waterfall before parking up in yosemite village. we had lunch outside and took loads of photos of el captain and half dome then visited the yosemite museum and visitor centre. we then walked up to the lower yosemite falls. only a dribble of water was coming down, but you could imagine by the rocky landscape what it would be like when rainfall is high. we then drove to glacier point for some even more amazing views. the scale of the mountains have to be seen to be believed. the only other place i've seen shear rock faces of these proportions was in milford sound new zealand but even those are a fraction of the size of these
