Where I stayed
the park roads have a speed limit of 35 mph. just as well, they tend not to have many crash barriers on the twisting and turning mountain roads. while the distances involved are not great the time it takes to get between places mounts up. the scenery is constantly changing as you drive. it is easy to take it for granted. just like yosemite, the scale of these parks, the mountains and trees cannot be captured by photos alone.
we carried on further into the sequoia park heading for the general sherman tree. this is the world's largest living object and measures 275 feet tall and a trunk of 36m diameter. it was good to get out of the car and walk a bit. time was cracking on so we didn't waste any time and pushed on. we saw no mention of the tunnel log - a tree you could drive through - so we keep on to exit the park. like most other park roads, i was thankful for the power steering. crikey bobby.
i was so pleased i booked a motel close to the park exit, so it didn't take us long to arrive, check in and head out for something to eat. pizza tonight, the community of three rivers is a fairly small place, much smaller than oakhurst.
we ended our epic day with a swim in the pool. absolutely lovely. just the ticket. tomorrow we're heading back to the coast. heading due west to monterey.
crikey i seem to have written a lot tonight.
