Where I stayed
I took some time to take some pictures of the hotel I am staying at. I thought they were going to call it the Dragon Head Hotel but then when a sign in the lobby went up I had a friend interpret it, Accompany River Hotel, direct translation. The owner asked me for an English name so I think the closest I could figure out from what he wanted was "By the River Hotel"? It is a nice new hotel with only about 20 rooms. Every room has TV, phone, internet connections, AC. Most have western style toilets and views. Very comfortable and the owners are really trying.
Visited my friend's Jonathan English school
Went to a party for the two teachers that are leaving the school. It turns out they are from California, Marin to be exact. They have been teaching at the school for 6 months now and their visa runs out so they decided to take off and travel for a while. It was a great party at Shelly's Riverside Retreat. Shelly is one of the local who started to encourage the local government to encourage foreign tourist about 20 years ago. She is a very progressive lady. Now she has this retreat it is a little remote but a fantastic setting on the other back of the Li River across from Yangshuo. You can make reservations to stay at her retreat and if you just want to kick back and enjoy nature this it the place.
All in all a good way to start the week.
Took a walk around town just to see waht was happening. I sometimes forget I have my camera with me but this time I just wanted to walk around and take a few pictures nothing special just a look around. I like all the grandmas' with there grandchildern. I also discovered the chinese way to save on diaper. Look closely. I spoted a guy who was doing his laundry down at the river. I guess he forgot something so when he went back to the river I just had to see what he was washing. This is what you call how to beat your laundry and get rid of your frustrations. Short strolls up and down so of the side streets in Yangshuo are great. All very safe and very friendly. You never know what you will find.
