25 days after I departed that bus, I sit in a hotel room in Salem, Oregon, another month of gallivanting behind me in which I've met and hung out with some really fantastic people and seen the likes of Old Faithful, Boise, Portland, Pre's Rock in Eugene, and the Pacific, ready to take on the next adventure: A Hike of the Oregon Coast.

I still don't have a grasp on the whole trip and its lessons, but it was the right thing to do, quitting my job and Goin' West. To get outside of society and jump into something completely foreign gives you a new perspective on life, both on the things you take for granted and in the kind of people you want to spend it with. It's much more important than our society lets on. There's something intensely important about being an individual, having confidence in yourself that you'll make the right decision when it needs to be made. So I'm operating with that basic philosophy in mind, that the individual must make the decision he or she feels is best, and letting it go from there.

I could expand that into a hot-air-balloon-sized bloviation, but I refuse to step onto a soapbox in a piece I have titled "A Small Wrapup". The point I most want to convey is: Life life in the now, the way you want to live it. And if you aren't living to make yourself happy, why not, and are you willing to undertake the journey to start?

Anyway, starting Thursday morning, I'm back on the road, or more specifically, on the beach/trail/road. The goal is to see a Welcome to California sign in 3 or 4 weeks. I cannot wait to get started. My bag is mostly packed. It just needs food and books. Oh I cannot wait to go fill my pack with food I like, and to be able to refill every 5 days! I look forward to sitting in a beachfront campground on some late September night, Walden in hand, mac and cheese on the grill, sunset on the Pacific, just living for the sake of living. Yes please.
