The beautiful Blue Mountains - staying in Katoomba
Entry 19 of 55 | show all | print this entry |
Popped into the Blue Mountains (blue, of course due to light effects from eucalyptus-ness given off by the rainforest...) for three days of trekking, rock-overhangs, waterfalls, steep inclines and an absolutely huge canyon with its creek running through it. Jules was, of course, a veritable font of knowledge on all things geological at this time.
Went across the mountains in a cable car with a glass-bottom which was fun if brief and populated by the most annoying Australian woman I've met thus far yelling at us about what was on our leeeeeeeeeeft and riiiiiiiiiight. Managed to fit in a night out for Franny's birthday meal followed by visit to a pub with two harmless Aussie men in tow where we terrified the chav/goths with our rendition of tenacious d. Luckily they were showing jelly-wrestling on a screen above the bar so everyone was happy.
(Kimmy's POV)
We've spent the last three days doing some seriously strenuous hiking - I think it might have been a bit taxing for you at the moment but there were some great views! We walked the three sisters route from Katoomba which involves some rainforest walking and a few thousanmd steps as well as a few waterfalls today - my legs massively ache now, but it was worth it. Yesterday we did a walk called Grand Canyon, which was six hours at a fair clip, although we slowed down because Fran's back was bad (she pulled it a few days ago and it's giving her some problems) .
