Day 7, July 28
After breakfast at our hotel and some time on the beach, we were off to the travel agent to book our ferry tickets to Sicily. We leave tonight at 8:45pm to arrive in Palermo at 6:30am. We spent the afternoon in the water, packed up, and drove to Napoli.
Naples traffic was crazy! Traffic lights, stop signs, and marked lanes mean nothing. Arriving in the city during rush hour didn't help. After asking nearby drivers while in traffic for directions we eventually found the road along the marina. Unfortunately, it is a divided boulevard with tram tracks in the centre, and we were travelling the wrong direction! We worked our way to the left lane hoping to find an intersection where we could turn ourselves around, but after several blocks, nothing. Finally we found an opening intended for oncoming traffic to turn left. There was a police officer directing traffic, directing us to go to the right. We indicated we wanted to go left, were waved to the right again. Again I pointed to the left and the officer shrugged his shoulders and waved us in the direction we wanted to go, allowing us to make a u-turn in the middle of the intersection.
After finding the marina entrance and waiting for some time, we were finally allowed to drive onto the ferry and parked our car. We quickly made our way up to the restaurant for dinner. The waiters were the most pretentious and rude and virtually ignored us if we didn't yell and wave for service.
After dinner we went in search of our sleeper seats but found the room too hot and noisy. After attempting to return to our car only to find that the garage levels are locked until morning, we tried to rest out on the deck.
Finding that too uncomfortable ( I had pulled muscles in my back the day before) we went back to our seats, only to find that someone was in them. Finding an adjacent sleeper seat room, we settled in for the night as best we could.
