Where I stayed
the Mars hotel.
In fact, since they have you over a barrel, and there is nowhere else to go, you cant get away for under 1400 rupees, which is what I pay for a week on the beach at goa, or 2 weeks in downtown delhi. Bastards. Also my Sri lanka flight was for the morning, so I didn't even get to enjoy the fuzzy television, or the dust rising from the slum in the back of the place for all that long.
Why, they even brought me a "gift" platter of some rotted fruit and extorted me for "tip, tip. . " Damn this place to hell, to paraphrase Heston. "It's a madhouse!! A maaaaadddddhhhooouuuse!!" If you might not be able to tell by now, I think I am all done with India. I just can't stand it anymore. The only "spirituality" is just a tourist ruse, it is dirty and run mostly by near-slave labor. I think I'll stick to the mountains and beaches from now on--there's only so many ruins and temples you can see before you get sick of it all. All this right when I realize I am able to drink the water anywhere in India and not get sick. Cruel fate.
Anyway, since I got here to hikkaduwa on the west coast of sri lanka, I'll get to the next installment. That is as soon as I find a place that doesn't charge 180 rupees per hour for internet access. Anyone have a spare ticket from chennai to boston they want to unload cheap?
Maybe I will be in a better mood tomorrow, but I have to go back to the vortex of India in two weeks for another 20 days or so, and I don't know if I can bring myself to do it. Staying in the Pahar Ganj is the most fun I have had this time round. Should have never left.
