Today had been a pretty busy day. Jess left us today which is absolutely rubbish but we can't all stay forever I guess.

Today was a lot of firsts too. For probably the first time EI heard an adult male sloth cry, literally like a baby. Vinnie has been going mental for a few days because we think Luna, in the next cage, is in heat. Today he got himself so worked up he started 'mahing' aka sloth crying. Clearly the poor boy needs a lady, we just can't give him one. No more accidental babies. Tis a full house right now! Today I also experienced my first sloth death while being at the sanctuary. Bonnie, the sloth who had to have her arm amputated, died today. She had been doing ok but in the last week she's been really weak, not moving about, not eating much. It's really sad, she was really sweet. Sometimes they just don't make it though. Another horrible first I had today was Matteo. Matteo was a baby in the nursery before, he is now back in the enclosures having been here before but has been going back to the nursery on multiple occasions for a variety of problems. Maylin, who works here, called Claire over as Matteo was literally on his back, foaming at the mouth, his eyes tightly shut and appeared to be having a fit. It was fucking horrid (and I've been trying not to swear in this blog this time but on this occasion it is necessary). He seems fine now but it was so scary! He's gone back into the nursery for now, I said to Claire he keeps having something that goes wrong with him when he's in the enclosures and he's clearly always trying to come back to her!

I finally managed to give Ursula her birthday truffles and discovered that same arsehole had eaten one! What the hell! So we definitely have a food thief! I'm less annoyed about my stuff and more annoyed that someone ate her birthday present. It's not like they couldn't not know it wasn't theirs!

We've had another hot day at the sanctuary today so the sloths are mostly chilling it up, expect of course for Tigger who really lives up to his name. Today he was in a proper little mood and had clearly been taking tips off Snickers on how to be a rascal. He's usually pretty good but I guess even sloths have their bad days! I had to wash the machete sloth again (seriously she needs a name) as despite the fact she is now moving about she has urinated all over herself again! At the end of the day Claire was wandering around making charts and trying to sort sections out so we'll all have sections again. It does make sense as you get to know your sloths and therefore know if anything is wrong. I also spoke to Marcelo as he was back today and got him to look at some of the sloth problems from the weekend. Machete sloth will be getting a bath from me tomorrow and her bandages changed. She'll be so happy with me later! I also asked him if he could find out where Gigia was buried, I am so glad he's not in the sloth fridge waiting for a necropsy. That would kill me, my poor baby.

Today is Missy's birthday so we all went into Cahuita for a bit. They went and got some dinner and then I met them for drinks. My strawberry margarita was amazing but I could not taste the tequila, luckily Sara accidentally got a ginormous shot of tequila so I managed to nab some of that. Ah Carribean life!
