I've decided that there is never a day without a sloth drama...

I spoke to Claire about moving Chris and she agreed that it was a good idea to move her. She's decided to put her with the bradys. Which I suppose is a good idea as Dusty is leaving. Dusty did not seem thrilled by the news though and told me to put Chris in Gavin's section for today as they were away. Fair enough. Claire told me that she should shadow with Dusty in the afternoon though.

Daniella asked me about the medicine again today, as in should she continue it when I go. I replied that I still didn't know as Marcelo hadn't come back yet and it was him and Judy that decide. She got a bit huffy and was like, "well someone has to do it". Well of course I'm not going to leave them to wither and die but not my decision. I also pointed out that they don't usually have volunteers doing it, I'm special duh! :P

There was all kinds of cuteness in the nursery today. Claire is trying to get baby bear Matthew to bond with new baby Jesse (who looks exactly like Matt but is silver whilst Matt is dark). She therefore put them in a bucket so they could bond/hug. Literally beyond adorable, two teeny tiny sloths hugging in a bucket. Too. Cute.

Today I had Mateo for baby time again. He isn't usually taken by volunteers as he likes to bite and as soon as you get him on the jungle gym he goes straight for the ground to eat dirt. He has like a built in dirt compass. Then you try and pick him up to stop him eating dirt and he tries to bite you. Yesterday I took him out and he was a dream and we bonded. Today he decided to be a naughty rascal today and so I gave up with him on the jungle gym and took him for a walk. These apparently he likes as he was good as gold. Little bugger.

Decided to hang out a bit with my little Pippa Bear during break time and I noticed her scratch her head. I decided to just check it out even though there was no indication anything was wrong. I had a rustle through her hair and I found a huge bloody clump! Nooo! I knew she was acting funny last week and that's where the mystery hair clump with blood came from. In this case I don't like being right! After I'd just found it Marcelo got back from San Jose and I was like, "Marcelo!!! Come look at my sloth!" (basically the long running joke of me chasing him around continues). He said it's the same sore as Zoey's (which has thankfully healed now!). My baby has to be shaved :( Marcelo did also say that him and Judy don't want me to go, me neither my friend!

In the afternoon it all went pretty normally, Chris seemed to be relaxing more after handling more calm sloths. She was meant to go in with Dusty but she told me that Claire hadn't spoken to her, I'm sure she had but never mind. Then it all kicked off. We were in the middle of making barros piles when the storm that had been threatening to roll in all day came in with a bang. Literally. There was massive winds, it tipped it down and there was thunder and lightening. Now sloths don't tend to like the rain at the best of times. They start racing, around their cages, scratch loads, fight, poo, wee and if they're really stressed they start oozing a white liquid from their nose, eyes and mouth. Yep all of this happened. Then all hell broke loose when the massive winds threw a huge tree branch down onto the roof which then broke a hole in the roof, soaking the sloths underneath. I ran upstairs and got people and generally got absolutely soaked running back and forth trying to do jobs. You can tell who was actually doing anything during the storm as they were the wet ones. Pretty much all the staff including Judy and Ursula were there helping, drenched and then it was me and Daniella later who went to check on her section. Everyone else spent the time taking photos and holding bradys...COME ON!!! Kind of annoying when you're running about getting cold and wet and other people are doing nothing but getting a sloth hug.

Eventually the storm died down and the roof got temporarily fixed, SOME of us ran round handing out towels and drying enclosures where the rain had been forced in by the wind and soaked tons of sloths and we managed to get the food out. Ubu got moved during the storm, he was meant to be going back to the nursery anyway and Judy was worried he'd get scared and fall (he's paralysed) during the storm. I also had completely forgotten that I had put vegetables on for Prince Gigia which had run out of water and were caramelising in the bottom of the pan...oops. Luckily I managed to rescue most of them.

It really breaks your heart when you see the sloths all out of control like that though. They just get so scares they don't know what to do with themselves. Thunder and the trio; Almendra, Primo and Manny were soaked and completely shaking from head to claw. Poor babies.
