I'm getting seriously aggravated by people not listening to me either. They'll get OTT about there sloth not eating much and I'll tell them that they often don't eat that much of a particular meal and then they'll go and tell Dusty that their sloth isn't eating and she will tell them exactly the same thing as I did. Everyone is also meant to be telling me sloth medical problems will Marcelo is away, but do they? No. Very frustrating. On every break as well people are at least half an hour late back, every time. So most the time it's just me and Claire doing vegetables etc. It's like break finishes at 8:30am, not 9am/9:15. It wouldn't be so annoying if it wasn't every time but it is. Again, frustrating! It's not like I can say anything though so I'll just have to rant to you guys!
Once again the sloths always manage to put a bright side on any annoying day and I got some more kisses off Pip today. Man she makes me work for it. Also got a half lick off Thunder who is generally aloof and doesn't like anyone, I have totally cracked the sloth nut. Although I do now have a lot of 'love marks' from them from where I've been carrying them all over my back aka tons of scratches. They just want to leave a little memento on me! Wall-E's one from yesterday is pretty good as he likes to hang with his foot off bras, nice big scratch right down my chest. Good work Wall-E.
So after the failed urine test of Ubu yesterday (he has no bladder control so doesn't retain urine), I was told by Marcelo that I had o try and catch it in this little blue container. Yes really. This morning when I got in Ubu had somehow managed to poo out of the cage wire into said container, I was impressed but like, not quite what I was looking for. As Ubu had managed to wee on my when I was transporting him to the vet clinic and back (2nd sloth wrangler point, only poo to go!) Claire and I thought we might get him to wee if I carried him about a bit. So for baby time today I, armed with a vinyl apron and the blue container. Carried him about for half an hour jigging him up and down to make him wee. Firstly Ubu, although his legs are paralysed has MAJOR hand grip, my shoulders were dying even though I had a towel round me and secondly despite all my best attempts he didn't go more than a trickle which just ended up on my leg anyway. Fail. He was very cute though and I literally got a sloth bath from him as he kept licking my face, neck etc. Cutie. I eventually took him out again in the afternoon and victory! Got enough urine to fill a syringe and two wet legs, mmm. Unfortunately the urine test (which I did myself I'll have you know) showed he had loads of blood in it. Claire and I thought he probably had a urinary tract infection and we're probably right.
We got a new German girl today and because I'm the next to leave she gets my section. NOOOOOO. Handing part of it over is pretty traumatic but I've managed to keep the ones I have slight preference over, even though I totally love them all. It was only her first day but I don't think she's going to be able to handle my section well. She's a bit jittery and most of my sloths are pretty grumpy/feisty. Not to mention their multiple medical problems. Pretty much the first thing I said to her was that I was coming back to visit and I would be checking up on them :P
Gigia has been eating much better, he'll eat a portion himself and then I'll hand feed him the rest, or most of it. He still seems a bit quiet and just ill. He definitely hasn't bounced back like he did when I first bought his medical condition up. He's a trooper though, I have faith!
We got the first of the new nursery babies down today. Jesse is a three finger brady and is now living with Matthew, Sylvanna and Cory. He's about the same size a Matt and has the cutest face. They look a bit like non identical twins as Matt is dark and Jesse is silver coloured. Too cute! Poko and Shiloh have moved to the big boy enclosure, big step! And we're getting two new two fingered tomorrow Becca and Bianca. They're literally polar opposites with their personality as Becca is really sweet and Bianca very feisty and bitey!
I went to get medicine from Judy at the end of the day and got to go back into the nursery to see the tiny babies and Mojo as well as the baby squirrel they've rescued which is gorgeous! I asked Judy earlier about if she wanted me to show someone to do the medicine for when I go. She asked if I had anyone in mind and I don't obviously although some people have asked, I totally feel it's my job! I later asked if they have volunteers who usually do the kind of stuff I've been doing and she was like, "Never!". Apparently Marcelo had said to her how good I was with the sloths and how well they react to me, that I had a really good eye and keep on top of things etc. So Judy basically said that if he thought I could do all the medicine stuff and believed that I would be that good then she thought it would be fine. How nice is that. I do really enjoy the medicine stuff and not to toot my own horn but I can really handle the sloths now and they do seem to really like me, even the grumpy ones ha! Yay :)
