By the time it got to vegetable peeling we realised that today was going to take a bit longer than usual as we're definitely spending more time taking photos. We all wanted ones of the last peel time and of the monstrous carrots that appear to have been delivered, seriously they're bigger than my arm. We actually listened to music for once too, why on the last day only I don't know. Yvette, who's music we were listening to was upset with us though because we all thought an artist we were listening to was Phil Collins and apparently it was some beloved Australian band. We were all super happy though because two random girls have come from some high school to do some community project and are helping here. I was particularly excited because I straight away said that finally we had been given some barros elves! That and they're not allowed to interact with the sloths so they can do all the rubbish stuff we hate like wash plates!
That however did not go so successfully as they took about 100 breaks, spent another part of their work time ogling the boys doing the construction work and basically did barros for 20 minutes and screamed when they found a slug. I was so excited for them and they were useless.
By the time me, Yvette and Christa had got to the 3rd box of barros we were fairly delirious with too much barros time and they had decided to make up a voice for Pip as I'm constantly saying how cute she is. The voice however sounded like someone who smokes ten packs of cigarettes a day and I likened it to a raspier version of Whoppi Goldberg. With Yvette and Christa coming out with what Pip would say to me in this voice, some being: alright darlin', gimme some carrots and so on, plus the barros delirium we were all wetting ourselves with laughter. We also decided we were going to have a 'barros gradution' which basically involved me, Linda, Christa and Yvette all throwing the bad barros leaves we had picked off into the air like graduation caps to finish off our final barros time together. Some of the staff were watching us and thought it was hilarious/thought we were mental. That's what checking every single barros leaf for weeks will do to you!
There's some people interviewing the staff here as they're doing some kind of article on the sanctuary so during baby time we had some photographers doing the photos of the babies, they're totally famous.
At lunch Christa and I decided to do some sloth shopping and I literally took half an hour deciding on which 'sloth <3' stamped necklace was the best. I want it to be perfect!
After work I spoke to Marcelo a bit and he complimented me on how hard I worked, how good I was with the sloths etc. It was really nice of him. He kept asking me why I was going and I had to keep pointing out I had no more money. I've hinted a great deal that if it wasn't for the money then I would stay a lot longer. Take the hint people!
After work Claire really nicely took us all to dinner. She gave Yvette some earrings from the sloth sanctuary to say thank you and paid for dinner for her. She was really chuffed. The dinner was a bit of a splurge but amazing and right on the beach. Plus it was really nice to go out with Claire and spend time with everyone outside the sanctuary. Afterwards we went back and played some pool which was actually pretty hilarious, we kept telling Yvette to put that Phil Collins band on and she got jokily annoyed with us about it. It does sound like Phil Collins though! Somehow I was awesome at pool this time round and did some amazing shots, fluke probably. We almost won 2 out of 3 but were narrowly pipped to winners title. Damn you Jorge!
I'm seriously gonna miss these guys and my sloths way too much!
