Today I have been pretty much missing the old volunteers, we had such a good group when it was me, Yvette and Linda. And of course Jens and Bettina were awesome before they left. It was really fun having 3 girls in room 7 though. And now I'm in the volunteer house and don't get me wrong I do really like the new volunteers, it's just not the same!

Gigia is still pretty ill, he was sedated today was given fluids, vitamins and an iron shot. Last time he bounced back pretty quick but today he slept most of the day didn't eat and was really quiet. He even let me touch his fur without really caring when usually he'll snap at you and try and bite. I'm a realist and I know he'll either get better again like he did before or he's just not going to. I'm being optimistic though, I'm not giving him up to the sloth fridge yet!

One super amazing thing I did today was go and see the teeny tiny nursery babies and in one case he really is tiny. Mojo is a two finger baby sloth, he's a couple of months old but he hasn't been growing. He's literally a little bigger than my hand and beyond cute. I also got to go on my own while all the other volunteers did something else, mahahaha. Some of the other babies are going to be moved down to the nursery tomorrow and Shiloh and Poko are moving to the big boy sections. It's all pretty exciting!

Even more exciting is we get to have sarah created cocktails tomorrow night as Judy gave us permission to have a few drinks! I've actually made one up based on the Cahuita rum you get here. It's going to be amazing! We went and got supplies earlier, totally can't wait! Any sloth rated cocktail names would be appreciated.

Back on the volunteer front, one has been annoying me a bit. At first I thought I wasn't going to like her that much but she kind of grew on me yesterday. Then today she got proper huffy with me and it really irritated me! As you all know I've been doing all of the sloth medicine that doesn't need to be done by the vet i.e nothing with needles. I've been treating two sloths in their section and after I did some today she says to me: "do you want me to do her drops from now on?", I basically said that it was ok, it was really nice of her to ask etc but that sloth was on my treatment list. She then huffily replied that the sloth was in HER section so she should do it. Uh sorry missy, you may have helped out in a vet clinic but you actually know nothing about sloths, I saw her almost get bitten about 5 times from a sedated sloth today and she ran and got Marcelo because she thought a sloth was going to break it's own arm when actually they have more joints than a normal animal so are really flexible. Not to mention that just because a sloth is in your section doesn't mean that they're going to give you a knife and say "go on you can perform the surgery". Little bit of an over exaggeration but you get me. I think they assume that because I'm a volunteer doing this stuff then this is the norm when actually I don't think they usually do this. Judy personally got me to do this job and I don't think she'd be too happy if I just handed over my responsibilities. Anyway I wasn't rude to her about it but said that if she wanted to I could talk to Judy and ask if it was ok for her to do it. The volunteer then said that it was up to me but that she thought it was a bit double handed that she was going in there and giving the sloth food, cleaning etc and that maybe going in more times would stress it out and as she was there it would make sense to do it. I give up she's really not getting it. To be honest I also have more important things to talk about with Judy (like my poor baby Gigia) than ask if other volunteers can get on the vet bandwagon but I will do it like I said.

I do feel a bit selfish/possessive of my role though. Daniella said that if Marcelo needed any help she would happily do it and my mind immediately went, 'no it's my job!' and pouted. To be honest someone will probably have to do it when I go but I totally don't want them to! I want to do it and I definitely don't want anyone looking after my sloths. I'm like one of those annoying protective mothers haha. As much as I'm looking forward to my excavation and seeing all my friends it has now become the reason I'm going back as I would definitely stay here long term. Does anyone want to pay for my return flights and sponsor me?
