Here at my Uncle Gene and Aunt Ruth's and Nathan, Aaron, Andrew, Abigail and Lydia's. We've made it more than 100 miles since last saturday, including 24.5 miles on thursday. Lots of beautiful rock formations. Caterpillars, moths and butterflies still abound and the trail even goes through some cow and horse pastures in the Cumberland Valley north of Boiling Springs, PA.

I'm still hiking in my crocs (squish clog-like molded shoes) and am sending my Chaco sandals home. They just didn't work out. Dad is meeting us Monday morning in Harpers Ferry, WV since he'll be up that way on business. He'll bring my hiking shoes and then and I'll make the switch. I should be fine until then. I'm learning to focus on putting my feet on the softest places.

Food is good, if heavy. My tarp tent made it here in the mail (thanks mom and dad for finishing it up for me) so I'm sending the bulky one-person tent home. For info on my hand-made tarp tent, see

We hit the trail again soon for another nearly 20 miles today. We figured that we need to average 20 until Linden, VA (20 Sept) in order to bring our daily average down to 15 for the rest of the trip (that's 7 days a week). So we may "buy" ourselves some "zero days" (a day when we hike zero miles) by hiking 20-15-20-15-20-0 weeks.

Next two mail drops:
Linden, VA 22642 on or around September 20

Waynesboro, VA 22980 on or around September 25

each step is destination,
