Started out the day with breakfast (or brekkie as I learned the English call it) at my hotel.  I decided I would only speak Thai at breakfast when ordering and whatnot but it's hard to stop using English!  Today is Monday in Bangkok and it's my first business day here.  La Residence Bangkok is located in the Silom district which is primarily a business district.  It was pretty quiet over the weekend, which I liked, but this morning it was all hussle and bussle.  Being Monday there are a lot of Thais wearing yellow shirts today to honor the King.  It's not mandatory but you do see a lot of yellow shirts! I had to smile while walking to the skytrain this morning amonst all the Thais in business suits - no business for me! woo-hoo!  I stopped at one of the zillion 7-11 stores on my way to the skytrain and bought a refill card for my thai sim card.  I also stocked up on bottled water for the morning.

I took the skytrain to the central pier and boarded the tourist ferry en route to Wat Arun or Temple of the Dawn.  It was amazingly beautiful.  At night, it is light up but I doubt I'll make it back down that way to see it. As you can see from the pictures, it was a high climb to the top of the Wat but I made it!  Not too bad for a chic with arthritis, huh?  ha ha!  The steps were so hard to climb because they were so far apart, about the distance from my foot to my knee!

I found out this afternoon that the train I planned on taking to Chiang Mai is booked until Wednesday and I don't really want to stay in Bangkok until Wednesday, I've seen all I can see in Bangkok without going nuts.  So I'm thinking about turning my plans on their head and going south first which would allow my feet to heal in time for the mountain trek at the end of my trip.  I'm going to spend some time this evening trying to make arrangements.  I'm also going for a real thai massage!

I'm constantly worrying that I'm overspending but when I convert it back to USD, it's so cheap.  For example:

A bottle of water costs between 16 and 32 CENTS!

The tourist ferry, good all day long cost $3.87

Al of my clothes hand laundered overnight for $13

Across town on the skytrain for just over $1

The temple looks amazing! One of my favorite things when I went to Europe was touring some of the old castles. I would love to see some of the Eastern architecture that you are experiencing!
