Food from Monday and Tuesday - We had lunch with our suppliers on both Monday and Tuesday. The Monday lunch was truly an experience
. There were 12 of us at the table in a banquet room, dishes started to pour in. We started with sea cucumbers in a light bbq sauce. Then it was scorpions, fried, they were like eating flavorless chips. Not much taste. There were about 25 dishes on the table. Entire fishes, turkey legs, clams, muscles, giant clam, Salmon sashimi, squid (multiple varieties), seafood of every shape and variety. More food then you can imagine. The sardines, served salted, breaded and intact from head to tail were very difficult to get down. They also served some shellfish of some kind that was kind of like a clam, it was nasty, I only had to get one down because I managed to sneak the other one on one of the plates that was taken away. There was also a baby shrimp salad that was trouble. Now you would not think a shrimp salad would be bad, however this shrimp salad had baby shrimp in their natural form with heads, tails, and shells. It was like chewing rocks, and the shells got stuck everywhere. Now you may ask why I was eating these things, some of which may not have looked tasty. The problem lies in the fact that Rob and I were seated next to the owner of the company and he insisted on loading our plates with everything that was placed on the table. Most of the food was okay but I came away not liking some of the things so much that the entire experience was a little more than I wanted.
We had excellent food in Zhengzhou with NCT. It was spicy and delicious, lamb, meat, the only strange thing I tried were small boiled quail eggs. They were very good.
Zhengzhou - We flew from Qingdao to Zhengzhou on Monday afternoon. Flight was about an hour, nothing interesting to report. The airports here in China in the major cities are new and modern. They have been targeted by the government for upgrades and they are as nice as any airport in the states if not much better than most. Zhengzhou is a city of about 4 million, it is considered one of the smaller cities in China, go figure. The amazing thing about Zhengzhou was the amount of construction in the city. I counted 40 buildings under construction that are at least 20 stories tall. I am sure there were more but the visibility was limited. If I thought the smog and pollution were bad in Shanghai, Zhengzhou is even worse. Very limited visibility.
