On the roof in Saigon
Entry 7 of 10 | show all | print this entry |
Well, it's my last night here in 'Nam. I just got an offer to be an extra in a Vietnamese movie as a French soldier in 1945. It would have been a four day shoot but there's no money involved and it's only 5 hours until my flight leaves for Tokyo. If I was staying for a couple of more days then I would have done it. It would have been fun. Back in Nha Trang I completed my first two try-dives. It was pretty good diving with visibility at about 10 feet. There was lots of well preserved coral, cuttlefish, squid, moray eels, and many types of brightly coloured fish. I'll have to get my open water certification next time I come. I also rented a bike in the city and cycled all day to the ruins and some of the bigger pagodas. I couldn't get a flight to Saigon so I ended up taking the 10 hour bus. I probably should have done an overnight sleeper train and not lost a day but oh well. Today, I was at my friend's place and this little kid walked into the place, looked at my friend, and proceeded to take a dump on the floor. Without a word the kid turned and left. I was pretty much in hysterics and could barely breathe I was laughing so hard. I've been taking it pretty easy the last couple of days. I went to the zoo and checked out the Vietnamese Museum of History. The history museum pretty much goes this way: We fought the Mongols, then the Chinese, then the Thais, then the French, then the Japanese, then the French again, the Americans, and then the Chinese again. It has some neat stone relief carvings from Angkor and other ancient sites from around the region. I've really got not much to say. Saigon feels like my second home and even though I really don't want to leave, I'm looking forward to Tokyo. It probably costs a fortune in Japan to send e-mail so I may not send much from there for the week. I'm back a week Sunday if anybody really cares.
