monday- after an intense weekend i was ready to get back to work. a few of the other volunteers left the past weekend and we are now down to two people at this placement. and today the other girl who goes to placement with me took a jungle trip so i was the only only one there today. pretty much the same old same old...nothing really popped out in my head. im now getting into the grove of going to work every day. playing with the children and doing my thing during the afternoon. mondays are usually a slow day and not alot of kids show up. my favorite kid did show up though, Cesar, with his little sister Annalee. we drew some pictures and the little 2 year old annalee and i began to go over the chess pieces, but she only seemed interested in the cabaitas, little horses. it was time to start taking the map making serious. i have two more weeks to get it done so alot of work was done on it. i started outlining the specific countries on different pieces of paper. this project is taking up alot more time than i expected, but it sure will be amazing when im done!
tuesday- was definatilty one of the toughest days of the project. i became very frutrated with the kids, well in my mind, and amlost left early. it was a contanst drag. they were always cheating in memeroy games we were playing...making up new rules in chess and checkers, and of course the gringo bashing also was in full effect. i was getting so frutrated, there were no little kids to play with as they always have smile on their faces and love playiong simple games and not being a pain in the as. the only kids that were there were oplder boys who were snot nosed punks that day. much like myself at a certain age. so i gave them the benefit of the doubt and let them make up new rules and let them beat me over and over again. what a tough day. after placement i just jumped on the intrnet and did mindless surfing for a few hours...i didnt want to do anything. that brings my total of really bad pissed off days to two. i was only in this type of mood earlier in my trip when i made it to tarapoto on my way to the amazon. ill take it...the motto is that which does not kill us only makes us stronger. nothing to exciting that night but doing some more map work again sketching out more countries and the pieces are coming together.
wed- such a better day than tuesday. i went in and took some pictures. there was a new cute face that i have never seen before. he was a little guy and didnt even know how to speak, but we had a good time anyways...the usual did puzzles and made a mess. he is the kid with the big hat on in the pics. today i saw one of the most wildest things i have seen in peru. so down here there are street dogs everywhere. i dont know if they have homes or not but they are everywhere. every type of dog you could imagine. none of them are super big, but they all have minds of their on... no masters to listen to the only thing they have in mind is to stay alive....basically wild dogs. so when these dogs get inot scuffles its usually over food and the simply nip and growl and bark at each other. today was a different story. i saw the primitive side of a few dogs it was raw and rugged. so a small scuffle started outside of the open door at my placement...nothing was thought of it. then another dog jumped in and it got loud and dusty. the teacher quickly ran to the door and closed it. i followed here and opened it and ran outside to watch...of course i closed the door behind me. it got wild then. i literally saw two dogs snap out of get the hell away from my freshly cut horns into im gonna kill this fucking dog. in total there were four dogs in this rumble. two dogs were being the aggressors while one was the target and the other one simply there for barking. i saw two dogs clinch their jaws deep into the ones neck blood was soonvisible and the two aggressor dogs pushed the other down into a croner and would not let him go....the yelps still ring in my ear. i saw a dog probably die form this fight. when the locals in the market began to throw rocks and hit the two dogs doing all the damage. there was blood on their faces and the other one was barley able to get up blood was running down its neck its leg looked as if it was broken. one of the most gruesome sights i saw. so intense! as soon as the fight was over life in the market went back to normal...it was only held up for a breif monet. i went back to placement and finished the day. that evening did some more work on the now famous map. a few friends went out for huge ice cream sundaes..caitlyn and michelle bought mine after i showed them that a blue dart does exist. afterwards we then went to plaza san cristibal for a few drinks.
thursday- i felt sick today and did not go to placement. i had to catrh up on my laundry as it had not been done since i was in the amazon! gross! well i did gain alot more cloths after i left iwuitos as i left a majority of my stuff in lima. i did my laundry, did osme interneting, and of ccourse did some more work on my map. pretty much a lazy day but i did sign up for friday zoo day with the prison kids.
friday- early rise and boy was i excited. about 8 other volunteers signed up to go to the prison and pick up the kids who have to live there with their moms until a certain age. i heard this was one of the best experiances of CCS. so we piled inot the ccs van and made our way to the prison. i was way stoked to get to go in the prison and check it out. as soon as we started walking towards the front door marisol, one the directors of ccs, said i could not go in because i was wearing shorts...WHAT! i was so pissed, becase all of my pants were wet from doing laundry i could not go into the prison. so i waited in the van for a solid 45 min until the other volunteers and the rugrats came out. oh but what a site...they all were smiling jumping up and down excpet one...caitlyn gets in the van and says...that one that is screaming and crying, well he is yours and johns for the day.....oh shit i gotta deal with this snot nosed kid all day. well john carries our new little buddy into the van while he is screaming as loud as he can. as soon as the van starts he was sprawled out on both of our laps and fast asleep. about 15 min later we made it to the zoo, and we had to wake eric up. he started to whine just a bit, but uncle blake was havin none of that...with a quick pick up eric was on my shoulders and had the best view in the place...the frown quickly went upside down and he started having the time of his life. i let him down soon and john and i let him run aornd like a crazy man...wherever he wanted to go we followed him...it was so much fun!
