cross the boarder from SA to Botswana with no problem. My passport wasn't stamped in South Africa so the first entry for this trip is Botswana. This was to get around the problems with apartite. Botswana is FLAT. Even for a boy from the praries. just not used to the red dirt. We could get cold beer and the stores were well stocked. next day we took a 'plane into the Ongavano swamps. The base camp is very pleasent but it was into dugout canoes polled by the blackest person I had ever seen. Beautiful saw shore birds and eagles. The guides wern't worried by the crocks but Hippoes were a concern. Couldn't get close to Giraffes. Went for a swim when we were told it was safe, they haven't lost many tourists. We had brought our own food and tents. The guides had meely meal (not sure about the spelling) which is casava cooked and ground into flour. A little food trading occured, I preferred ours and they could only afford theirs. Even though I'd been in Africa for 2 weeks without a sunburn I got roasted in the open boats. Suffered for several days. next day back at base camp saw the first snake in Africa.
