June 27, Mainz, Germany
After breakfast we went on the top deck for the trip through the Rhine Gorge. This a beautiful stretch of the river with more castles and beautiful towns than you can imagine. We passed the famous Lorelei Rock (known to lure sailors and cause them to crash & die). Because we have a good Captain we made it safely by!
After lunch, we arrived in Mainz at 2:00pm and went on our walking tour. We really behaved and only had ice cream or gelato once today! We ended the tour at the Gutenberg Museum where we saw a demo his printing and saw one of his original Bibles.
After collapsing into bed for some rest, we left for our trip to Rudesheim and our wine tasting and then dinner. The wine was a very good 2007 Rudesheimer Bischofsberg Riesling Spatlese from the Peter Ohlig Winery in Geisenheim! Talk about paradise. We purchased two bottles but I seriously think they may not make it to the end of the cruise!
I should also point out the Germany has been totally preoccupied with World Cup soccer. When Germany beat England 4-1 to get to the 1/4 finals, the entire country went bonkers! The SuperBowl doesn't come close!Sent from my iPad

I know. There is nothing like being in Europe (except perhaps south america) when the world cup is going on. I was in italy in 1994 and ive never experienced anything like it.
