Hi Friendlies,
We have finally entered another country! That mysterious, misinterpreted and misunderstood country of Islam. We were happy to leave India, feeling that four months was definitely enough. A little timid about the big unkown of another country after being so used to the rickshaw wallahs, beggars, and lovely A/C train rides. But we find that here there are all the same things, but the rickshaw wallahs are honest, the beggars are very few and the buses are A/C with hostesses, movies and snacks! In short, a much pleasanter country to travel in.

We were blessed by the company and guidance of beautiful Lahorite Amna, our energetic friend of a friend now our good friend(thanks Brendan!). She rescued us from the filthiest hostel and scruffiest inhabitants that we have encountered yet. Plonked us into a nicer hotel then juiced and dined us(alcohol is prohibited). Showed us the wonder of the old city-gigantic mosque, Lahore Fort and Mogul Garden. Patrick made about a hundred friends with his charming good looks, after a hundred handshakes and even more photos, we dragged Patrick out of the fray and had a smoke of sheesha to help him relax. This is not illegal, it was in a rooftop cafe; mild tobacco with flavoring, we preferred the mint one...

Now we move onto Rawalpindi, one step closer to the KKH (Karakorum, Highway, along which we inted to do three of four short treks up into the big mountains of the Himalayas, Hindu Kush and Karakorum Range. We are very excited to get into nature, away from cities, rubbish and haggling.

Internet will be scarce for the next few weeks, we'll probably catch you in China.

love Christina and Patrick
