Dear All,
This is possibly our last post from India.
We are doing our best to close the book on India - post all the photo's we can and update posts where possible.
It has been a long, but deeply satisfying 4 months. We will miss India but, I am sure, feel relieved at the new places, faces and opportunities.
We have had so many amazing experiences. Here is a top ten in no particular order:
1
2. Le Corbusier's wonderful Sarabhai House - Ahmedabad
3. FOOD! Bengali Food, Mughlai Food and Gujarati the picks
4. Malik Ghat Flower Market - Kolkata
5. Old Delhi - Jama Masjid and Bazaars
6. Extra's on the film-set of "Equator" in Jodhpur - Coming to a Portuguese cinema near you!
7. The Sikh Golden Temple, complete with mood lighting and electrical storm - Amritsar
8. Dzongri Trek - Sikkim
9. Itimad-ud-Dualah, Agra - a true gem
10
Honourable mentions:
A week in the Mehta's Haveli, Ahmedabad, and;
Kala Dunga - looking into the Great Rann of Kutch
Gujarat was the real 'sleeper'. We hadn't planned on getting there but it was exceptional in the end and we only scratched the surface. Go see it!
The Room for Improvement prize goes to Varanasi. Tourists and hosts alike need to smoke less. Much less.....Much, much less.
The Rubber Chicken goes to the Pahar Ganj, Delhi. Under no circumstancs should people go there! Ever! but if you do, ask to inherit the rubber chicken.
So: Thankyou India!
Where every taxi ride came with an argument; every building a lean; every "yes" a head wobble that looked like "no"; and every solid crap a fist pump and high-fives all round.
Depite all of this (and more....much, much, more), we shall one day return to your fine country!
ciaociao
ps. happy birthday to my Nana Maria! 80 years young!
