After perhaps one of the shortest hotel stays ever - a 3am check in and a before-7am checkout, it was time to say goodbye to the room mate and other tourmates who were choosing to spend extra time in holland.
On the bus for one of the last times, a drive past a few windmills (not all that many though) and through belgium. Admittedly, I didn't see all that much through my eyelids. A stop at a belgium petrol station, ("Steve, what country are we in?") and a chocolate purchase -cote d 'or of course. mmm.... and then another drive through closed eye lids. Can't tell you all that much about Belgium, the home of waffles, chocolate, Papa Smurf (and the rest of the little blue creatures), the now outlawed Tin Tin and Audrey Hepburn. Yep, that about does it.
Not all that long until we were back in France, in Calais. We had quite a wait at the dock - an hour or so - to get through customs. I think they were being extra stringent due to recent events. So they should I spose. Gee my fellah was lovely and friendly, and it was so so so lovely to hear an english accent! I got to tell him all about Diversional Therapy. He asked for it! He also asked if it was my first time in london, I got to say 'no'!
Before long we were on the boat and more friendly, english people and normal food and pretty soon, we were back in Dover. No blue birds though. Gee i was excited to be in England! It was a bit of a contrast to the last time I was in Dover. I knew one person or so and was on my best, reserved, politest behavior. Now, I was singing Vera Lynn to my heart's content, and telling everyone from the tour that we were in England - England! and dancing round excitedly.
Back to the tour hotel, I said a real quick goodbye to everyone and made my way to my own hotel. Interesting going up and down stairs with a big suitcase! Eventually found my tiny, tiny, tiny hotel room after several kms worth of detours (only natural when you are trapsing round a foreign city alone with a suitcase.) Despite all the catnapping throughout the day, I was pretty knackered so I wandered round to the HUGE supermarket 2mins from my hotel, Sainsburys and bought a few little groceries, then time for bed, in London again, yay.
