After a 13 hour sleep, it was nice to grab a piece of bread and head off to the Isle of Capri, still feeling more than a little ordinary.
It was about a 20min ferry trip to the island, which is a rocky heap planted in the middle of the ocean. It was quite a misty day, so Mt Vesuvius was only just visible, a faint watermark in the distance.
One of the grandsons mused, "I wonder what made them see this pile of rock and decide to build on it?"
The isle of Capri was apparently previously attached to the Italian mainland, but floated away quite a while ago I imagine. Continental drift I guess. Wasn't listening to the local guide all that intently to be honest. Its real esate is up there with the priciest in the world and it's very big on tourism.
We went straight to the chairlift which was pretty fantastic. It took us right to the top of the island - right above the clouds. It was more than a bit like being in an aeroplane. You could see people in their gardens working on their lawns, it was quite fun.
Went for some lunch, decided that going with the group for spaghetti bolognese wouldn't be conducive to a happy tummy, so had a strawberry sorbet instead. Beautiful!! Actually tasted like real strawberries.
Went for a wander round island with group and guide. He pointed out a Judas Tree, so named because it betrays the normal pattern for a tree and flowers in the winter. Went for a walk around the botanical gardens which was really colourful and pretty.
Finally went on a boat ride right round the island. What a beautiful island. saw a number of caves and a group of goats standing on the side of a very steep island looking out at the ocean.
After this, back on the ferry and to the hotel for an included hotel tea.
