Waking in our red tent surrounded by the +7000m snow-capped mountains of the Annapurna range and the sounds of the buddhist chanting 'Om Manae Peme Hom' was a great way to start the day. The scenery was stunning and we trekked for 6 days through valleys, alongside waterfalls and over the tops of mountains to the next nights camp, spurred along by group renditions of the hits of the 80's, Abba and the Sound of Music (David leading the way with his favourite 'Doe a deer'). Luckily for us, there were plenty of tea-house stops along the way, while our porters hopped along like mountain goats, each carrying at least 60 kilos of bags, tents, tables and food - they made it look so easy, but we knew how tough it was!
In total we had a crew of 28 cooks, servers and porters looking after the 12 of us. The 3 meals a day they prepared for us on the mountains were delicious, we were definitiely well fed! In the evening there were some needle card games and also folk songs and dancing with our porters 'You're a donkey, I'm a monkey, S-O-B-D-E' (or so it sounded!). It was then early to bed for a good rest before our 7am cup of tea delivered to our tent - that is what you call real service at the top of a mountain!
