Before our visit, we knew very little about Macau and pleased to find there is a lot crammed into this small Chinese province; a long history as a fishing and trading port between Europe and China, fantastic museums, an annual motor race and the only dog racing track in Asia.
The Portuguese influence is everywhere in this former colony. Some amazing architecture, namely churches and forts, could well be from Lisbon and this has given the city a very colourful feel. This influence has spread also to the varied food on offer, focussed on seafood and delicious sauces. There are many residents of Portuguese heritage and a very friendly relationship continues to exists between the two.
Macau hosts a 3 day motor race meeting each November featuring Formula 3000, Superbikes and touring cars
The city also has 16 casinos and it has been called the Las Vegas of Asia. The Wynn Casino (of Vegas fame) opened in 2005 and next year will herald 3 more huge US based casinos to open including the 6 star Venetian (complete with replica tower of St. Marks!).
We are confident that the city will retain its charm and winning combination of Asian efficiency coupled with Portuguese flare - it has so much more to offer than just casinos!
Sorry no photos as the internet is too slow to upload any!

01 Numerous "fresh" fish shops!
. The race track through the winding city streets is very similar to Monaco. Many of todays and yesteryears F1 winners have won at F3 in Macau including Michael Schumacher, Aryton Senna and Damon Hill. The city also has 16 casinos and it has been called the Las Vegas of Asia. Great to see you are keeping the entries up. It is great to be able to catch up on your travels while sitting at my desk - makes me feel like I can be part of your adeventure - without having to taste the vodka, go rug shopping or endure the squits!
Missing you both - Stu & Soph
