Hong Kong is a real city of heights teaming with impressive skyscrapers: 11 out of the world's top 20 tallest buildings are in HK but, even more spectacular is the co-ordinated light show of the shoreline buildings every evening.

The city is dense but well organised on many levels, with extensive shopping malls and restaurants hidden within the many tower blocks. We met up with old friends Mike and Lesley in a 13th floor bar - you definitely need local knowledge to know the best places to go! The elevated walkways are the most efficient way to get around; it was possible to walk the 20 minutes from our hotel to the Star Ferry on walkways through adjacent buildings and over roads, never once touching the ground.

The world's longest escalator took us to Ladder Street, followed by what felt like the world's steepest tram to Victoria Peak. The vista over HK from the top was breathtaking and closely rivalled the view from the newly opened 'SkyRail', a cablecar from the mountain top Buddha in Lantau overlooking the airport.

Hong Kong is a high tempo and fascinating city but definitely not for those with vertigo (Amy - take note!)
