Before visiting Moscow we never expected it to be so vast - it is the size of Belgium and has 9 Million tube goers daily - more than New York and London combined. In comparison to Moscow, St Petersburg now seems like a small friendly village!
We are staying in a complex of 5 hotels built to accomodate for the 1980 Olympics with 8,000 rooms. Of the 28 floors in our hotel, only floor 24 is non smoking - more of a reflection of today's Russians than yesterday's Olympians!
The city is dominated by The Kremlin and Red Square - seeing Lenin embalmed was a unique experience. The highlight has got to be the artwork within the Kremlin's Cathedrals - acquired from all over Russia.
Our next step is 3 days in a 4-berth train cabin to Siberia - not sure what to expect but we'll keep you updated!

The World beckons....
Hi guys! Moscow & St Petersburg look fantastic. Rather disappointed that your travels won't bring you to wonderful Korea, but nevermind ;-) Can't wait to hear about the Trans-Siberian; thats the way i'm hoping to come back after my year of teaching. Good luck, and keep in touch. Rebecca xxx
Meeting up in Beijing!
Lei Ho Ma!
(that's what they say in Hong Kong, anyway for hello!)
I love you travel site, it's so great being able to see where you are and read what you've been up to.
Ted and I arrive in Beijing Sunday 24th Sept, and we're staying for the first 2 nights in the very posh Beijing International (wedding present fund!) which is quite near the Forbidden City/Tiannamen square, 9 Jianguo Mennei Streetnear the Jian Guo Men tube station.
We then have to go down budget to the Golden Palace Hotel (had to do it now we're Mr & Mrs Golden!!) which is on Wan Fu Jing Ave, the main shopping street, and we'll be there for 4 nights. I think you're due into Beijing on the 23rd, so do you want to meet us at our Beijing International hotel on the Monday eve and we can go for a few drinks and some peking duck!
Will be great to see you. are your phones working?
Take care, and have fun and we'll see you soon!
love, Katy x
