From Hahei to Mt. Manganoui

with Rene

First thing in the morning we drive down to the coast to see Cathedral Cove. Itīs a two hours walk there all along the waterfront. I go all a and o again-having it introduced to Rene long ago.

The caves are wonderful and I even manage a hand stand-thanks Isabell for the idea! Of course we donīt want to miss out on anything-and see the Gemstone Bay as well. Gemstone Bay

A Picknick on the beach gives us back some strength (and some juice) and well fed we start the journey to Mount Manganoui where we end up in a shabby, dirty crap place where people smoke to much. But just for the night it might as well do. The morning starts with some exercise by climbing Mount Manganoui and catching amazing views of the surroundings. For comfort and warmth I want to buy a Jeans in a second hand shop but donīt find any-instead my suitcase increases its volume by a jumper-you need all sorts of clothing in this changeable weather!

At Rotorua lake we witness a bad and good weather front hitting each other. And while we sit in the comfortable car all save and warm we experience the bright sunshine turning into wet in seconds cooling down several degrees. Yak!

On the plan for todays accommodation is the funky green voyager where we get greeted in german. In this country, backpacking from hostel to hostel, you would do fine by only speaking this language.... thank god I donīt speak it. Itīs again a most charming place-homely and friendly. On the wall are lovely photos on canvas it doesīnt take me long to detect Cologne. The owners are a Kiwi-German couple and try to be remembered in the traveler heart by offering a spotless well equipped place and selling cheap essentials like beer , eggs, muffins and coffee. Thank you!

At night we go to the Polynesian Spa on the lake side where you can see the stars while becoming thoroughly relaxed in the hot mineral water.

The day after having done a fair bit of work to keep the diary up to date and run some errands in town I get picked up by the MC Gregors of the apple house farm. Mari is waiting for me!
