BELINDA'S BLOG

We had a really busy day today and ended up walking quite a bit by the end of it.  The kids have crashed out in bed as they were shattered!

We started off by making the most of the inclusive buffet breakfast - which was very impressive.  Greg made more of it than the rest of us!  It was quite impressive though and I did enjoy it too!

We decided to walk through the heart of Sydney to get to the area known as Darling Harbour - this was to go to the Aquarium and Wildlife World.  It was a good way of getting feel for the city and get our bearings.

I have seen my fair share of Aquariums in the past - but this one was particualrly good... The largest tank had two tunnels beneath it and contained some of the largest rays and sharks I'd seen in captivity.  Seeing the large sharks swimming over the top of me - smiling down - did remind me of Bruce in Finding Nemo!  The Ray's were massive too!  We paid a bit extra to go in a glass bottom boat on the top of this tank - where an employee talked about some of the fish in the tank and we got to feed the fish with some special flakes.... good interactive stuff!

We also got to see a Platypus - such a strange creature - something I'd never seen before!  I joked with the kids that it was made up of all the bits God had left over when he'd finished creating all the other creatures in the world - a beak for a nose - a big flappy flat tail - sharp hind claws and webbed front feet - really odd!

I felt really sorry for the large saltwater crocodille - he was in such a tiny pen.  When we'd seen the large one sitting on the bank of the river only a few days ago, it struck me as really quiet sad for the poor fella.

The displays were generally very good and all the aquatic creatures looked really healthy.  I could have sat and watched the fish swim round the big tank for hours.

Despite eating tons for breakfast, the kids were all moaning they were hungry at thie end of the Aquarium visit, so we wandered along and bought lunch.  I finally got to drink my Tall Skinny Latte as we found a Starbucks at the other end of the quay!  Yeah at last!!! Great after missing out when we first landed in Sydney nearly a fortnight ago!

The Wildlife World was full of insects, reptiles and other small creatures, plus a few Koala's, Kangeroos and a large Carrowary bird.  The kids were able to hold a Goliath stick insect almost as soon as we walked into the centre - it was all quite "hands on" as they also got to stroke some lizard thing later on.  The Koala's were particualrly active too - it was funny to see them running about their enclosure as all the ones we'd seen in Queensland were always asleep!

On the way back tot he hotel I tried to get some more cashout of my bank account - but the machine was still having none of it.  I tried to call Lloyds bank in the UK - but after explaining my situation, they put me on hold on my mobile for 7 minutes - so I gave up and hung up.  I had to use my other card again - which thankfully still worked..... although I did have to go back to the hotel for it as I'd left it in the safe.

I left the kids in the room watching a film while I dashed out to sort the cash out - and got them tea at the same time.

A tiring day all round.  It doesn't help that I think the kids are fed up with each others company.   They seem to be a bit moire niggly with each other than they were at the start of the holiday - or maybe I'm getting more easily rattled by them!  I shall look forward even more to seeing Joanna on Friday - my kids will have fun with her two for company!

Today we went to the Aquarium and it was really really good.  There were lots of sharks and fishes and there were even crabs.  We went on a glass bottom boat over the biggest tank in the Aquarium and there were millions of fish underneath our boat - it was really cool!  At the Wildlife centre there were lots of ants at the start - snakes afterwards.  We saw the Worlds deadliest snake there - but I can't remember his name!  The second most deadliest snake I can remember - it's called the Western Brown Snake.  We kept meeting a lady on our way - who'd done the glass bottom boat in the Aquarium.  First she held the second biggest stick insect in the world - the third time we met her she was holding a lizard.  There was a night section to the wildlife centre and it was really good because there were lots of possummy things, rabbitty things and micey things!

Then we went into the shop and I forgot that I wanted to buy a toy submarine, which was in the Aquarium so I hurried along, but in doing so I dropped a 5c through the gap in the floor!  Mum said I am very silly as it fell through the cracks into the sea!  Luckily she had a spare and I was still able to get the submarine.  We went home and watched Mr Magorium's Wonderful Emporium - which was very, very good too.  Then we went to sleep.

Today we had a really good day, first we had breakfast which was a buffet and was really nice.  We then walked to Darling Harbour to go to the Sydney Aquarium and Wildlife World.  In the Aquarium there were lots of fish (obviously) and sharks.... and other aquatic sea creatures.  We saw strange fish and sharks on the glass bottom boat - there was a very territorial fish which chased away the others when it got near their nests in the sand! When we were watching the penguins, I made up converstions for them to entertain Jenny.  It was very funny.  There was also a sign over the top of the crocodile enclosure which said "If the fall doesn't kill you the crocodile will!"  In the Wildlife World we saw very cute Koala's which were wandering around and jumping from tree to tree!  We also saw night time animals - one of them was really cute and was called a Bilby.

Once we got home we watched a movie while Mum went to get us tea.

GREG'S BLOG

Hello, Today we went to the aquarium and this animal place, which was fun.

We woke up, and had a buffet breakfast in Cafe Mix, where I had SEVEN hash browns, with a ton of baked beans. Then we grabbed a map off of a concierge person, and we set off! We went to Sydney Aquarium 1st, and saw some: fish, sharks, jellyfish, octopii, starfish, and  various other squishy things that one might find in the sea. We saw a saltie croc, with a funny sign, and i played around with a microscopey camera thingy, to look at some tiny see-through fish.

Then when we got bored, we went outside to get lunch, and we decided on a Subway. Yummy : )

After our sandwich stop, we went over to Sydney Wildlife World, where we saw a load of different animals, including a section inside, which had all of the nocturnal animals, who had been comfuzzled, to think that night was day, and vice versa.

Then we went home, and watched a film, and just zonked out. Yay.
