Sopot Camping #19

Arrived in Sopot yesterday. Sopot is a beachfront resort town about 20km north of Gdansk. Nice campground... biked into Sopot last evening... about 10 km of straight flat bike trail along the waterfront. Weather sunny, but still cool. Thousands of tourists swarming the town, especially around the km long pier... lots of hawkers, bars, ice cream stands, along with some upscale hotels and restaurants. We are really enjoying a beer (about $2 each) in the afternoon, and watching the people go by... vacationing oldsters, families, young couples... huge variety of dress and hair styles, dozens of school groups of all ages.
Today we took a 20 minute train trip into Gdansk, and walked for miles in this delightful town with its renaissance main street and waterfront, then over to see the Solidarity monument and the museum of freedom. Amazing to think of the violent and courageous struggles here just 30 short years ago. Then more beer and people watching. We have eaten out the last couple of nights.... cost is about 10 to 15 dollars total for a decent meal and 2 beers... the train was only about $3 round trip for both of us!

We are in the absolute opposite part of the world...total wilderness up here in the Broughton Archipeligo...such fun to have the odd internet connection and be connected to your amazing travels. We had fresh prawns and crabs tonight on the dock and raised a glass of beer to you both. F/K

Hi, you two. It's great to keep in touch with you this way. It sounds like the beginning of your trip was a great success. The campsites are quite, different aren't they? We looking forward to more news.
