There are lots of activists in this area, and some of them arranged for Fr. Roy Bourgeois, founder of School of the Americas Watch, to speak in Las Cruces last night. I carpooled with Anne, who spent 6 months in federal prison 10 years ago as her protest against this school that trains assassins to kill and rape their Latin American countrymen all funded by U.S. tax dollars.

He affirmed of the efforts of the small audience, the majority of whom have already attended the annual protest at Ft. Benning, GA, in their work for peace. About 22,000 people met there in November 2006 one weekend to join this nationwide protest. We learned that there's a good chance a bill to cut funding to this 'school' will pass the House of Representatives this year. We also learned there's a similar facility that Condie Rice and gang foisted on El Salvador recently that trains police--and military, by the way--for all Latin America.

Regarding personalities: the woman who joined Roy and Fr. Larry Rosebaugh when they pulled their famous middle-of-the-night stunt at the SOA of broadcasting Archb.Romero's last sermon (the one that got Romero assasinated) to the soldiers was present in the audience. I suggested she read Fr. Larry's autobiography because that incident featured in it prominently.

I'm busy working with Anne right now to host the Wheels of Justice tour when it passes through El Paso at the end of this month.
