Fortunately for us, some Desert Humanitarians invited us to join them for a hike in the Tres Hermanas mountains near Columbus. We took along some water and a lunch to enjoy at the top, and we left water along the way for other hikers who may follow us.

The path was not well-worn, so we WERE worn out as we meandered through the boulders, the cat's claw bushes, the thorns and cacti. Paul and I would not have missed it for the world!

Here's the view of the vast expanse of desert at the bottom of the mountain (you can see one of our vehicles parked there if you look to the left side of the photo):

Lunch at the top tasted great, aided of course by the magnificent view:

When we returned to our trucks--much to our surprise--we found two border patrol vehicles and several officers waiting for us out there in the middle of nowhere! So it must be true that they have sensors implanted in this area to detect when people walk through, in case it may be undocumented immigrants. When they saw all us "old gringos," they didn't even bother to speak with us; they just got into their vehicles and took off.
