Well we finally made it to the big smoke, Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina and home to around 13 MILLION Porteņos. It took us 12 hours to get here, by bus, and I'm walking like my incontinence pants need emptied!!!

This is the second place on this trip where we have inflicted ourselves on previously, so it will be great to see how much the place has changed in 5 years.

The room at the hostel is pretty small, in fact we have to synchronise turning over in bed to make sure the door doesn't open. One of the first things that welcomed us was a large cookroach, I mean massive!!! But fear not, Julie is becoming a merciless ninja with her flip flops. Before I could say "Quick, dive for cover" she had him stunned, injured and definetely unable to create any more little cookroaches:-)

Our arrival day coincided with the election of the new President, a woman, Cristina Kirschner, who succeeds her husband as the boss

. Seems like only yesterday there were suffragettes jumping in front of horses and Argentina was under a cruel dictatorship.

Anyway, we made a bit of a mistook................we were knackered so we went to our scratcher, when we heard what we thought were fireworks (signalling Cristina's success). So we got out of our jammies and headed down to the main square, which was deserted. It was only when we got back to the hostel we discovered it was the water heater outside our room sneakily making firework noises!!! Doh!

We were RE-ROUTED! This first stint in BA was taken up mainly trying to organise our flights for the remainder of the Odyssey. When we went to change our Santiago to Auckland flight the guy told us that route is booked out for months, until at least the end of February. So, long story short, we have been re-routed! We had to pay a bit extra and we now go to New Zealand via Los Angeles.

The mullet is king of the haircuts here..........so Waddle, Hoddle, Frog and Colin ...........you are trendy again!!!

We went to the Bombonera, home of Boca Juniors for a game

. Fantastic atmosphere but spoilt a bit by the away fans from Velez Sarsfield...........spitting on us and lobbing down bags full of No1's and No2's and there was hundreds and thousands of them. As if that wasn't enough the also threw down lumps of concrete, one hit a guy standing beside Julie!:-(   But we live to tell the tale :-)

We did find time to get straight into the Porteņo way of life and are really enjoying walking round and taking in the atmosphere. This is one of THE best cities in the world:-) You could live here very easily.

On the plus front we have arranged to be on Easter Island for Christmas :-) I'll let you know the address later for sending pressies. So for the first time ever we'll have Christmas at Easter.

Next stop: Montevideo, capital of Uruguay (then back to BA)
