Bandit territory!

Uyuni is a lawless sprawl in the middle of nowhwere, rumour has it the makers of Mad Max films turned this place down as it was too desolate!!!!!

Most people come here to visit the vast salt plains (Salar de Uyuni) and we are no diiferent. We had originally planned to stay 2 nights and play it by ear. Oh No, booked a one day trip to the salt plains and booked the train out the same night.

The salar is awesome, miles of bright white blinding ground for as far as your squinting peepers can see. It is totally surreal and the boundaries of ground, horizon and sky are like something out of a psycadelic 60's movie Give us a lift
Give us a lift
. 80% of the worlds salt comes from this region and it is a brutally harsh environment, punishingly hot in the sun and up to minus 40 at night. The tribes that work this land really are the salt of the earth (I had to crack that one, come on).

After the trip back to the town, where they just received a new batch of firearms last week. I am not joking, they were all over at the train cemetary testing out their new rods, you could hear gunfire all over the place.

We gotta get out of this place, midnight train, 7 hours and we should e in Oruro, en route to La Paz.

Next stop: civilisation (we hope)
