Show trip route
Top Gun is being shown again on the open air screen by the pool. Like it or not the sound is on full blast so you've got few options if you do not want to watch it. I decided to sleep instead and had the weirdest dream about two ambitious Sisters of Mercy. They were great rivals as both wanted to become the Mother Superior in their convent ie Top N.......... No I can't say it. I'm not that sad (well perhaps).
Lunch today was a fantastic Indian buffet served by the pool. Variously themed buffets have been served every 2-3 days and they have been some of the most enjoyable meals that I've had on the trip. We've had Mexican, Seafood, BBQ and even a fruit buffet. There was a special buffet to celebrate 100 years of the Panama Canal and the main fish dish was Chubb.
If frequency of selection is anything to go by our favourite food on the entire trip has been the Bircher Muesli which we have enjoyed every day. Most days I've had mine with a generous helping of prunes stewed in orange juice - delicious!! However, I had to keep off the prunes whenever we had a day in port. They do terrible and unpredictable things to my insides which means that I can never be more than a 20 yard dash from a loo for a few hours after eating them.
We have eaten dinner in the dining room about the same number of times that we have been to the buffet. As you might expect the meals in the dining room are far nicer than the buffet options, but it takes much longer to be served in the dining room which can be an important factor in the "where shall we eat" deliberations, if you are arranging your evening around a show or a film.
Without exception every comedian that has appeared on the ship has made fun of the cabins on the Island Princess. ( e.g "why is the light switch on the outside of the bathroom?" A. " because there's no room on the inside" ). Yes,they are small but I think our cabin is slightly bigger, or perhaps just arranged better, than others that we have experienced. There is loads of hanging space for clothes and there's even a built in fridge for our contraband gin and tonic. On the downside, the TV programme guide might just as we'll be written in Chinese, it's useless. Consequently, we've ( I've) tended to tune into BBC World News whenever we've been in the cabin. Unless of course, any of the Premiership games are being shown on ESPN, then Minnie gets to watch the football. Actually, they've been showing games from the cricket i20 World Cup most nights so I've seen some of England's games, including the brilliant win against Sri Lanka.
It is the last formal night tonight so it the last opportunity to try out my alter ego on our unsuspecting dinner guests. I would have had a go earlier in the trip but every night we have been to the dining room we have found ourselves seated with some Brits. Last night we met a couple from Leicestershire and I couldn't see them being taken-in with my story about the Trent valley wine growing region. Anyway, a stiff G&T should give me all the Dutch courage that I need.
