Xi'an, the city of the Terracotta Warriors. We did not go to see them straight away though. We started by doing one of the more randomn things that i have done on my trip. Xi'an is one of the only cities in the world to have a City Wall all around it, so Toby and I decided it would be fun to hire bikes and cycle around it, 13km with a bit of a hangover, plus I had not slept that well as my room was similar to a dungeon, I quote the Lonely Planet "avoid the overflow basement rooms, which are damp, windowless cells." Anyway in the end funnily enough they did not have two bikes so we hired a tandemn bike, and to really add effect it was a pinky purple colour, we looked SO gay it was ridiculous! Even more amusingly one of the pedals fell off half way, and as it is a square we had the choice of continuing with 3 pedals or turning round and having to go as far in distance either way. SO we continued and just amount managed to get back before dark and jam the pedal back on so we got our deposit back. Then we rewarded ourself with a mcdonalds, they love it out here!
Now for the main attraction, the Terracotta Warriors, which are pretty cool, basically people sized army warriors who were built to guard the tomb of the emperor. They were discovered not long ago in 1974 under the ground but were built about 2000 years ago, anyway pretty cool...I think theres not much point in me talking about it just look at the photos...
Xi'an is very nice and it was really cool to see something a bit different to Beijing. Lots of nice food and drink but too be honest due to the current typhoon in Shanghai, not sure i have got much more energy in me. May possibly cut the trip short by a week, but due to the British Airways strike we may not get home at all! More thumbnails ...
