Hello All
Not been a great start to this, been away nearly two weeks and its the first chance i have had to update it. Well here goes... After the longest flight ever from Heathrow, (where we nearly missed the flight) to Los Angeles, nothing interesting there other than meeting a 55 year old called Norm who taught us how to play cribbage. We were really living the rock and roll life. Then on to Fiji where we had to wait 8 hours in the airport, in ridiculous temperatures, until we finally arrived in Tonga, losing a day and some of my sanity on Thursday, although i had no idea what day it was or what was going on! Tonga has been really cool so far, all the people are really friendly, they call us Palangi which is basically white boy. Kinda racist but im not gonna argue, they are fucking massive, and the men are enormous too!
We have moved into our house with the leader, guy called miles from Canada, whos pretty funny, he shagged a 45 year old woman last night, she was rotten! Hes my age as well! Then theres a guy called guy, and another bloke who arrived yesterday called will, (this is fairly boring i know, but i am using this diary so i remember this stuff as well! Ok so we have started in the local high school, Tupou High School, where we are teaching english, and maths and i also thought i would put my business to good use and do some business classes. I was a bit nervous about it but the teachers are so shit that i can only be an improvement, its pretty fun and the kids are really cool, mainly between 11and 16, have to be a bit careful with some of the girls they are either worryingly pretty, or absolutely masssive and give you the impression they take by force! We teach from 9-12 then sleep from 12-3 and then we start our coaching from 3-5. The kids at the school are pretty raw, despite loving rugby they dont have boots or balls (the rugby type) slightly poorer than i imagined. They are really good kids though and are eager to learn. Then from 6-7.30 we play with the local club Fanga, we dont coach them we just play, they are fucking good and absolutely massive, they could and probably would eat me if they had the chance, they are really friendly though and i get the impression they are gonna watch our backs for the next 6 weeks, they said a prayer for us yesterday which is very weird. Imagine 40 humongous men praying for you, very odd but nice i suppose.
Then in the evenings we tend to have a gourmet meal of 2 minute noodles or corn beef, its not just us being lazy though, the tongan food is absolutely rubbish, its why they are all so massive. By the way the King of Tonga by law has to be the heaviest man in tonga, a couple of years ago he made the island go on a diet as some of them were catching up with him, you can imagine how huge he is! Little fact for you there Anyway better stop there as i am sure you are all bored by now. Having a wicked time, loving tonga, drinking lots of local brew in the evenings and meeting lots of other travellers, also with the advantage of being able to look down on them cos we "live here".
Hope you are all ok and keeping well, i am ok on the stomach bug front at the moment but im sure it is only a matter of time keep in touch mikey More thumbnails ...

Cool blog! I lived on Tonga for three months when I was 11! It was great! It truly is a paradise isn't it? I cannot believe you went to Pangaimoto! We used to go there every Sunday when I lived there with my family. The Tonganese are extremely friendly and I was recieved well in school... My plan was to sneak in unexpected, but with my dangerously blond hair and fair skin, that plan was shot down ... show all
